The New York Hot Jazz Youth Camp will be held at the Greenwich House Music School, 46 Barrow Street, NY NY 10014
What to expect -
Our goal is to provide instruction to young musicians of all skill levels, who want to further their knowledge in the styles of traditional/classic jazz in a non-intimidating environment. The curriculum pulls from jazz's inception in New Orleans through its journey to New York and Chicago in the 1920s and '30s and subsequent West Coast stylings.
The NY Hot Jazz Youth Camp welcomes students on all instruments ages 10-15 to explore the building blocks of jazz in three spring break sessions:
April 10th: Intro to Improvising
Learn how jazz music began in New Orleans, how to invent your own melodies and rhythms and share them with others
April 12th: Build A Band
Find out how your instrument fits into a jazz band of any size and how to be part of a musical team
April 14th: Jazz Jam
Come together with your camp compatriots to learn multiple new songs and spontaneously create new ideas
Each session is 1:00-4:00 pm daily
All sessions: Bria Skonberg (trumpet) + Molly Ryan (voice)
April 10: Jim Fryer (trombone) + Nick Russo (guitar)
April 12: Dan Levinson (clarinet, saxophone) + Rob Garcia (drums)
April 14: Jesse Gelber (piano) + Sean Cronin (bass)
Pre-register by emailing email@example.com
Sessions are $20 each, cash or credit card accepted.
A Message from the Founders-
Both of us share a love of this music that was instilled early on, largely through attending jazz camps. It was there we found inspiration and garnered a deep appreciation for the sounds, stylings and music created by the likes of Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Jack Teagarden, Kid Ory, Johnny Dodds, Benny Goodman, Earl Hines, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Eddie Lang, Johnny St. Cyr, Pops Foster, Gene Krupa, Baby Dodds, Bessie Smith and many other jazz greats. We can't wait for you to learn from and interact with today's top jazz artists, whom we have selected as our world-class faculty!
The Greenwich House Music School is a historic and picturesque place in the heart of Greenwich Village, Manhattan. We fell in love with this venue and the people who run it, and we know you will too. It is a full-time music school dedicated to sharing music with youth and we're thrilled to be partnered for this venture.
Thank you for supporting the camp, live music, and we look forward to meeting you :)
